apocalypsehow: made by squarebox (determined as fuck)

It didn't take the siblings long to reach the theater where Vanya's concert was happening tonight. There was still no sign of Five anywhere, but at least he knew where they were going. Either they were going to save the world or die horrifically. At least they'd be together, like their father had intended.

Allison

After escaping the bowling alley, the siblings made their way to the Icarus Theater as fast as they could. Allison had no idea what to expect when they went in there, but she was prepared to do whatever she needed to keep Vanya safe.

She scribbled something down in her notebook. I need to go in alone.

Luther

"Allison, I can't let you do that," Luther said. "She's beyond reasoning."

The house, Mom and Pogo were all gone for god's sake.

Diego

They didn't have time for this. "Don't you hear the music? It's starting."

Luther

Luther could hear the music too, and that they didn't have much time. He looked over at Allison. "Do you honestly think she's going to listen?"

Klaus

Klaus looked like he was about to jump out of his skin. They needed to figure something out now. "We really don't have time for this."

Luther

Luther finally gave in, shoulders slumping. "Okay, go."

Diego

Diego watched as Allison turned away to head into the concert hall. "You're using her as a distraction, aren't you?"

Luther

"Our best chance to incapacitate Vanya," Luther said. "She'll thank us later."

Or not.

Luther looked between Klaus and Diego, trying to quickly form a plan. "Klaus, you're out front."

Klaus

"Aw, what?" Klaus asked. "The front?"

Luther

"Yeah, you're the lookout," he said, patting Klaus' shoulder. "Diego, take the left side of the stage, I go right."

Diego

Diego and Luther left an irritated Klaus to be the lookout, each of them taking a separate door to get to the backstage. Diego could see Allison in the aisle among the audience, and at center stage, was Vanya. She looked different--paler and her eyes were glowing some, but it was her.

He couldn't really claim to be a music expert, but he had to admit she was talented.

Luther

Luther wasn't really focused on the music, more on how they were about to interrupt a concert in front of hundreds of people by tackling their sister. Better than the world ending, he supposed.

He caught Diego's eye, giving him a nod to go after Vanya.

This would go great.

Vanya

Vanya effortlessly threw Diego and Luther aside with a flash of white energy from her bow, and resumed playing like nothing had happened. She ignored the screams of her fellow musicians and the scrambling of the audience towards the exits.

She didn't really care about an audience right now. She just wanted to play her violin.

Diego

So that had hurt. Diego had heard Annie when she described Vanya's powers and believed her, but it was entirely different experiencing it in person.

Diego pulled himself up off the ground, ducking behind some chairs. Luther wasn't far behind. "She's stronger than expected."

Luther

"Yeah." Understatement, really. He peeked up from over the seats to see Vanya still playing. She was standing now, and the music seemed to be getting more intense.

Allison

Allison had ducked down between some seats when hell started breaking loose, just to avoid getting trampled by audience members and musicians. When she spotted her idiot brothers she grabbed the first thing she could find and threw it at Luther's head.

Dumbasses.

Luther

"Yeah, we're fine, thanks for asking," Luther said to Allison. "Look, I almost lost you once, I wasn't going to risk it again."

His dumbassery came from the heart!

Diego

"So much for the element of surprise," Diego said. "What else you got?"

Look, if Luther was going to play Number One he had to come up with all of the plans, okay?

Allison

Allison snapped her fingers to get the guys' attention and started miming playing the violin. God, she wished she could speak right now.

Diego

Diego rolled his eyes. "Yeah, no shit, Allison. Tell us something we don't already know."

Luther

"She's talking about the violin." Idiot. "It's her lightning rod. If we can take it from her and stop her from playing, we might have a shot."

Diego

Diego opened his mouth to ask how the fuck they were supposed to do that, when the sound of doors being kicked open could be heard over the music. The gunmen from the bowling alley had figured out where they went, somehow.

"What the hell happened to Klaus, he's supposed to be lookout!"

Luther

"Are you surprised?" Luther shouted. That's when the shooting started. Again.

Great.

Five

"What's with all the lollygagging?" Five demanded as he appeared with them, proving once again that he was such an old man with that word choice.

Luther

"Five, get down!" Did you not notice the gas mask guys shooting?! "I thought you bailed on us!"

Five

"I had an errand to run," Five said, looking around at those very men shooting at them all. "This is not good."

You know, in case they needed to be told that.

Diego

"You know these guys?" He didn't think they were here for Klaus.

Five

"Yeah, I do." Thanks for all that clarification, Five.

Diego

"And?" Were they human, were they lizard men, he needed answers!

Five

"Well, we're screwed," Five said instead of giving him those answers. Because you came to the wrong family for that, pal!

Klaus

"Guys, they're here!" Klaus shouted, proving himself to be the worst lookout they could have picked. Worse than even Allison who could not even talk.

Luther

"Klaus, get down!" Luther shouted. What was with all of you today?

Five

Well, rather than just call more attention to them by shouting, Five was already teleporting over to tackle the guy who was taking aim at Klaus. Well, at least Diego was aware of all the rage in that tiny body these days, because he was doing some unspeakable things to that poor Commission-sent assassin.

Klaus/Ben

Klaus had ducked when Luther shouted at him, but now he was noticing that his hands were glowing. And he wasn't even on any drugs for it!

Not only were his hands glowing, but now Ben was glowing blue as he stepped out from within Klaus, tentacles lashing out from his chest and stomach like the old days.

The old, horrific days.

Luther

"Oh my god." Now Luther was the distracted one. "It's him. It's Ben."

What do you know, Klaus wasn't lying for once.

Klaus

The tentacles reached out and snagged those armed men, flinging them back and forth to kill them before any of his siblings could be harmed. Also because who really knew how long this would last with Klaus.

But once that was done, he faded back from everyone else's sight.

"Now who's the lookout!" Klaus said brightly.

Vanya

If Vanya had been a little more in her right mind, she would have loved to see Ben. Instead her playing got more intense, white light emitting from her violin and turning not only the violin but the outfit she was wearing white.

Which would have actually been a pretty neat trick if it hadn't also made the building start to shake and crumble.

Diego

Right about now, Diego was very glad he made that last phone call to Annie. This wasn't looking good.

"How do we want to end this thing?"

Luther

"We surround her," Luther decided. "All right? We come at her from all angles."

It was a horrible plan, but the only one he had.

Klaus

"So, it's a suicide mission." Look, Klaus was gonna call it like he saw it right now.

Five

Possibly. Wait, scratch that, definitely.

"Yeah, but one of us could get through," Five insisted, willing to power through to get this done. "It's the only chance we've got. All we all in?"

Luther

Luther nodded, and noticed that everybody seemed to be on board with this except for one person. "Allison?"

Allison

Allison gave them all a stern look and shook her head. This wasn't the right way to do this.

They had to know that, right?

Luther

Nope, they did not know that at all!

Luther nudged Diego with his elbow. "Stage left. I go stage right. You two take the front."

They were a bunch of big dumbasses, but this was all they had.

Five

It was the only plan they had, okay? He didn't see Allison coming up with anything here.

Five took a deep breath and nodded, taking his position for this suicide mission.

Luther

This was absolute suicide. At least they'd go down together.

Luther took his position. Stealth wasn't really needed at the moment. Vanya seemed to be so engrossed in her playing that nothing would distract her. Maybe that would help them.

"Now!"

Vanya

Vanya wasn't that distracted. The boys didn't make it very far before Vanya stopped playing. Tentacles of white light shot out of her chest and wrapped around each of her brothers.

It didn't look to be the most pleasant experience, not that Vanya noticed. She was essentially sucking the life out of her siblings, turning them into husks of themselves.

Allison

But, you know what? Allison actually did have a plan. And if they would have spent more than a second to listen to her, she would have told them.

Well, written it out.

But right now, she was using this moment of distraction from Vanya to walk up behind her and draw a handgun, firing it to deafen her. If her power was based on sound like Allison's, disrupting her focus like that had to work, right?

Vanya

The gunshot caused Vanya to drop the boys pretty much immediately. For a moment there was a sense of calm. But only for a moment.

Then a giant blast of energy erupted from Vanya's chest, breaking through the ceiling of the auditorium and into the sky. Into the moon, actually.

It only lasted a few moments and then Vanya collapsed, unconscious.

Luther

Luther recovered quickly, scrambling towards where Vanya and Allison were. "Is she alive?"

Contrary to his actions tonight, he really hoped she was still alive.

Allison

"Yeah," Allison finally managed to croak.

Luther

Luther looked relieved. "Yeah? We did it then. We saved the world."

Klaus

"Uh, guys?" Klaus asked, looking up through that big fuck all hole that Vanya had blasted through the ceiling. "You see that big moon rock coming towards us?"

Luther

Aw, his old home.

"Well that's not good."

Klaus

"So this is it, huh?" Klaus said, watching as that moon rock was getting closer and closer. "So much for saving the world."

Man, he should have snagged something to drink.

Diego

Diego sighed, looking up at the sky. "If only Sir Reginald could see us now, huh? The Umbrella Academy. A total failure."

Luther

"At least we were together at the end," Luther said. "As a family."

That was one good thing, right?

Five

No. No, no, no, no. This wasn't how it was going to go. Not if Five had anything to say about it.

"This doesn't have to be the end," Five said, going through the calculations in his head and how much of his own energy it would take to accomplish. But then, he hadn't felt this invigorated in years.

Luther

"What are you saying, Five?" he asked.

Five

"I think I've got a way out of here, but you have to trust me on this."

You know. Just a little bit of trust. Shouldn't be too hard.

Diego

"No." Look, the moon was hurtling towards them and it was putting him in a bit of a mood, okay? He didn't want to hear about anymore stupid plans.

He was still smarting from the life sucking tentacle thing.

Klaus

"Yeah, I don't think so," Klaus had to agree. All things considered with Five and his complete lack of sharing.

Five

You were all idiots and he regretted caring about you.

"Then we might as well accept our fate, because in less than a minute we're going to be vaporized," Five snapped.

Diego

Oh fine. "What's your idea then?"

Five

"We use my ability to time travel, but this time I take you all with me." Better than dying along with the rest of the planet, right?

Diego

"You can do that?" Things that should have been mentioned ages ago, Five!

Five

Here was some honesty for you, Diego:

"I don't know, I've never tried before."

Diego

Fuck it, if it got him back to Annie he'd be willing to try anything. "What's the worst that could happen?"

Five

"You're looking at it, a nearly sixty year old man inside a child's body." So, it wasn't too bad, right?

Diego

Diego gave Five a once over. Sure, he and Annie's sex life would have to be put on hold for about a decade, but they could make that work. Right?

"Oh, what the hell, I'm in."

Klaus

"Yeah," Klaus said with one more glance up at the whole sky falling in thing. "Whatever, I'm in too."

Luther

Luther nodded. "Me too. Allison?"

Allison

Allison took a breath and nodded, stepping closer to her siblings to express what she couldn't say right now.

Luther

Luther looked over at Klaus. "What about Ben?"

It was kind of surreal he was asking that.

Klaus/Ben

Klaus looked over at what, to everyone else, was just a blank space to get that confirmation. "Yeah, great. He's in."

He was not going to mention how pleased Ben looked to be acknowledged again.

Five

"Okay. Great." They could do this. "Luther, grab Vanya."

Luther

"Wait, should we be taking her?" Even as he the question he was going over to pick up Vanya. "If she's the cause of the apocalypse, aren't we taking the bomb with us?"

Five

"The apocalypse will always happen and Vanya will always be the cause unless we take her with us and fix her." Preferably sooner rather than later.

He held out his hands for his siblings to take. Like a really shitty prayer circle.

Diego

Diego took one of Klaus' hands and placed his other one on Five's shoulder. This was likely a stupid decision, but even as they were standing there more explosions could be heard as pieces of the moon started crashing into the earth.

God, he hoped this worked.

Five

Five closed his eyes and concentrated on what he was doing as Allison and Luther closed the other hand of the circle, Vanya in Luther's stupidly burly arms.

Over the noise of the world ending around them came a crackle of electricity and a portal not unlike what it looked like when Five teleported started to slowly expand above them.

Luther

"It's working!" It looked like it was working, anyway. Luckily he wouldn't have time to feel like an idiot if it didn't work since they'd be dead.

Five

"Hold on, it's about to get messy!" Five shouted over the noise before they were all just gone in a flash of light.
