Diego was doing pretty well for a guy that had been shanked (thanks to Annie's efforts). He wasn't passing out anymore, which was helpful when it came to paying attention to Five catching them up on what happened with Vanya and Luther.

God, Luther was an idiot.

"So you just let Vanya go?"

Annie

Annie glanced up from where she was carefully changing the dressing on Diego's wound -- which, yes, was coming along really nicely -- and just raised a skeptical eyebrow at Five.

Which wasn't really fair of her, considering she had also let Vanya go. But whatever, she also hadn't been acting like she was the one in charge this whole time, either.

Five

"Oh, I'm sorry, was I supposed to lock our sister up in a soundproof chamber in the meantime?" Five asked, having it up to here with everything. Which was essentially just how he functioned, so it wasn't even that much, really. "Since that went so well last time."

Not helpful, Five.

"She has a lot to process. She'll come around."

She sort of had to for this to work.

Lila

"Well, if you had the chamber and you didn't use it, that seems like a bit of a waste," Lila offered, not especially expecting a response from where she'd slung herself sideways in a nearby chair.

You were all so lucky she'd just been given more reasons to still be here. This was verging dangerously on boring. But Lila hated disappointing her mother, and she had orders now.

Diego

"What about the guys that went after her?" And him too. It had to be the same guys why would there be that many Scandinavian people in Texas?

Five

"The Swedes?" Five asked, eyeing Lila like he was once again questioning why she was even there.

Because he was a suspicious bastard, but for good reason.

Annie

"Those guys seemed pretty intense, Five," Annie contributed, her brows knitting together as she accepted a mug of coffee from Elliot. "With us, with Diego and Lila, and now with Vanya."

Unless, yeah, three different Billy Idol knockoffs were wandering around 1963 Dallas with happy trigger fingers.

Diego

"How do you know they won't go after her again?" Diego asked.

He knew Vanya could take care of herself but he didn't know if she should take care of herself, seeing as her powers could take out a city block.

Five

"We don't." But Five had to think of himself in their shoes and if she'd fought them off once already, they'd try for an easier target.

Hopefully.

Lila

"Any idea who sent them?" Lila asked casually, making a point to sip from her own coffee as though the answer barely mattered to her.

Five

"Oh I have my suspicions." That he wasn't sharing, thanks.

"But right now our priority is finding Dad, and getting answers because everything else depends on it."

Also, everyone else was an emotional mess.

Diego

"I found Dad already," Diego said, reaching for Annie's coffee cup so he could sneak a sip.

Disgusting, the both of them. Also put a shirt on.

Five

Yeah, Five looked judgey, but that could just be his resting bitch face.

"And let him go before we could have a meaningful conversation," he pointed out.

Diego

"He stabbed me." It had hurt! A lot!

Five

"I'm surprised he's waited this long." Wow, that was some real sibling talk right there. "Diego, we've all had the urge."

Never followed through with it, however.

"Good thing I know where Dad's going to be tonight," Five continued, offering Diego the invitation he'd stolen from Reginald's office.

Annie

Everyone could feel free to just continue to ignore Lila, who had put up her hand for a high five upon that 'we've all had the urge' comment and was still waiting for someone to bite.

Annie certainly was ignoring her. This was much more interesting. "'Hoyt Hillenkoetter and the Consulate General of Mexico in Dallas cordially invite you to a gala,'" she read, leaning over Diego's shoulder (and taking the mug from him for another sip, since it was now a communal coffee situation. Get a room, guys.) "A gala, oooh."

Elliot

"Whoa, wait. Hoyt Hillenkoetter?" Yeah, Elliot was here too, guys. Because this was his apartment. "Are you serious?"

Annie

"We should go," Annie decided, reading through it. "Sounds pretty fancy. There's a seafood tower."

Which -- along with the weight of the paper this invitation was printed upon -- signaled to Annie that they would need to go shopping, because they certainly couldn't turn up to an event like this dressed like they were now.

(Like, if nothing else, Diego needed a shirt.)

Lila

"A seafood tower?" Lila made a big point to latch onto that, almost reverent -- obviously that was the only reason she would want to come to such an event, right? Who didn't love a seafood tower? Especially people who had just escaped from a place where bacon was kind of a luxury. "We should definitely go."

Five

Meanwhile, Five had zeroed in on the fact that someone recognized the name on the invitation. "You know him?" he asked Elliot.

Look at him acknowledging Elliot was people too!

Elliot

Elliot so was people, Five, thank you. "He's one of the Majestic Twelve."

Annnnd there went any credibility Elliot had.

Diego

"The hell is the Majestic Twelve?" Sounded stupid. Therefore, he needed to know more.

Elliot

"It's a secret committee." Yikes. "Uh, scientists, military, deep state. No one knows what they really do."

This sounded legit, right?

Diego

"Wait, so they're government?" You know what that meant?

John. F. Kennedy.

Annie

"Babe." God, that word was getting a lot of play since Annie had landed in the past, but this time it was doing double duty as, 'We're not going to this gala to save Kennedy,' and, 'Don't get so excited you forgot you got shanked.'

Granted, Annie was also laying a hand lightly on his arm to reinforce that second point, since it was her bigger concern. This new obsession with the government was -- like, it was bad, of course, but maybe there was a more reasonable version of this plan that could be negotiated and strategized and coaxed out of what...Diego had come up with already.

Five

Five tossed a hand up and looked at the ceiling for the grace of god to not stab Diego right this very moment. Because if Diego tried to use this to change the timeline again, he would. Oh, he would.

Elliot

"Shadow government," Elliot replied. "Yeah, Kennedy was the first president to try to push them into the light, but these guys are not to be trifled with."

You were not helping the Diego-Kennedy thing, Elliot.

He leaned forward to get a better look at the picture. "Here we go, right here. That's Hoyt right there."

Lila

After a quiet couple of seconds, Lila made her first serious, actually-helpful contribution of the day.

"I only count eleven."

Elliot

"Well that's because they've only identified eleven." Elliot looked so happy to be discussing this shit with someone other than himself.

Diego

"Who's the twelfth?" The sentence was barely out of Diego's mouth before he was looking over at Five, because the answer to that was obvious.

Five

Yeah, it really was.

Five's expression said it all about just how entrenched in this whole thing their father was.
